SHL General Ability Test (Verify G+): Format, Scoring and Practice

SHL Verify G+ is SHL's general ability test: one 36-minute sitting that measures numerical, deductive and inductive reasoning and reports an overall score plus a score for each. PrepClubs runs full-length practice in the same multiple-choice format, 30 questions on one 36-minute clock, with a worked explanation for every answer, in English and Japanese.

How long is the SHL Verify G+ test and how many questions does it have?

The SHL Verify G+ test allows 36 minutes for a maximum of 30 questions, according to the SHL product factsheet. That is 72 seconds per question. It is computer adaptive and measures three abilities with 10 questions each: numerical, deductive and inductive reasoning. SHL says you may use a calculator on a numerical test unless you have been told otherwise. SHL publishes no time limit or question count for the interactive version.

Which SHL practice tests are on PrepClubs, and how long is each one?

PrepClubs has 16 SHL practice tests: 2 diagnostics and 14 full-length forms, 480 questions in all. Every one runs 30 questions on a 36-minute timer, 72 s per question.

The question count, time limit and question mix in each row are read from the question bank that runs the live tests, last on 8 Oct 2026, so each row matches what the test shows when you open it.

What the SHL Verify G+ is

Verify G+ is a general ability ("G") test published by SHL. SHL's factsheet for the multiple-choice version lists up to 30 questions in 36 minutes, about 10 numerical, 10 deductive and 10 inductive, each with five answer options, taken in one sitting. SHL positions it as suitable for all job levels because it is adaptive.

Adaptive means the questions you get depend on how you answered earlier ones, so two candidates rarely see the same set. You cannot go back to a question after answering it. A calculator is allowed on numerical questions unless your instructions say otherwise.

SHL also runs Verify Interactive G+: up to 24 questions in 36 minutes, answered by dragging, tapping and filling rather than choosing A to E, and designed for phones. The three abilities and the kind of reasoning are the same. Your invitation email names the version you are taking.

The three abilities

Each ability gets its own score in the report, and together they make the overall general ability score.

Numerical reasoning

Read tables and charts and work out percentage changes, shares of a total, reverse percentages, conversions and projections. SHL's own examples use a readership table and an imports bar chart. Most items take two or three steps.

Deductive reasoning

A short set of facts, then "which of the following must be true?". The skill is drawing only what the facts force: chaining rules, eliminating arrangements and spotting statements that could be true but are not guaranteed.

Inductive reasoning

Non-verbal pattern finding. SHL's examples show a sequence of five boxes where you pick the next one from A to E, and a grid of shapes with a missing block. Most series combine two or three rules, such as a rotation plus a movement.

One clock for everything

SHL publishes one 36-minute allowance, not separate section timers, and does not publish the question order. Candidates report the abilities are mixed, so switching between them quickly is part of the skill.

How SHL Verify G+ is scored

SHL reports percentiles against a comparison group the employer chooses, for example a general population, managerial or graduate group. The report shows an overall general ability percentile plus separate numerical, deductive and inductive percentiles, and can include T-scores and stens.

There is no universal pass mark. Each employer decides what percentile it needs for each role, and some weigh one ability more than the others. Your practice goal is simple: finish all 30 questions accurately within 36 minutes.

Our practice forms are fixed rather than adaptive, so your raw score out of 30 is directly comparable from one attempt to the next. Use it to track progress in each ability.

Who uses the SHL?

SHL assessments are used for graduate, professional and managerial hiring worldwide, often alongside SHL's OPQ personality questionnaire. Your invitation will name the exact test.

A two-week SHL Verify G+ prep plan

Days 1 to 2: Take the diagnostic

Sit a full 30-question form on the clock. The ability split tells you where the points are: most candidates find one of the three far weaker than the others.

Days 3 to 7: Fix the weakest ability untimed

Work through explanations for every miss. For numerical, write the formula before touching the calculator. For deductive, list what each fact forces. For inductive, name each rule separately before looking at the options.

Days 8 to 12: Timed full-length forms

One form a day at 36 minutes. Aim for about 72 seconds per question and move on when a question passes two minutes: you cannot come back to it on the real test.

Day 13: Review patterns in your misses

Group your wrong answers by type: wrong base year, missed "must", a rule you did not see. Each group is a habit to fix, not bad luck.

Day 14: Rest

Check your device, calculator, pen and paper, and a quiet room. Sleep matters more than one more form.

Common SHL traps

Dividing by the wrong base

A percentage change is measured against the starting value. Dividing by the later year, or reversing a 15% rise by taking 15% off, is the most common numerical slip.

Choosing "could be true" on a "must be true" question

Deductive distractors are usually possible, just not guaranteed. If you can build one arrangement where the statement fails, it is not the answer.

Tracking only one rule in a series

Inductive options are built so that each wrong one breaks exactly one rule. Find every rule first, then eliminate option by option.

A score tells you how you did. The coach tells you what to practice next.

After every test you get a short plan built from your own answers and seconds: which sections cost you points, which ones eat your clock, and the drill that fixes each.
